Is Jughead Gay?
1 - No girlfriend. Never had one, never wanted one. Sure Big Ethel might not be any man's dream, but even when someone like Veronica offers to kiss Jughead for saving a kitten from a deserted island, he says no. Not only that, he gets disgusted at the idea and would prefer a 'big meal' instead. Why would anyone turn down a kiss from Veronica Lodge?
2 - He loves food. Yes, we all love food, but maybe Jughead is replacing his lust for men with food. He knows that he might not be accepted by his gang if he comes out, so he drowns his sorrow in food. Lots and lots of food. Look at how much he enjoys that hot dog... look at all the juice flying off of it. I mean, c'mon! To top it off, he's got his close friend Archie sitting, shirtless I might add, right next to him. He knows Archie is watching him eat... Archie always watches Jughead eat, and Jughead always has something in his mouth when Archie's around... which leads me to my next point.
3 - His 'close' relationship with Archie - Archie and Jughead are best friends. I think Jughead wants more, but he's subtle about it. Instead of trying to ruin Archie's relationships with Veronica and Betty, Jughead thinks he can curry favor by doing whatever he can for Archie. Let's say Archie is supposed to meet Veronica at 1pm at the north end of the park, but also supposed to meet Betty at the same time at the south end of the park? What's he to do? Jughead will run interference for him. What if Archie needs to do a 10 page paper but also has a date with Veronica that same night? Jughead secretly does Archie's homework and doesn't take any credit for it. I think that goes above and beyond the call of a 'friend' don't you?
4 - His dog's name is Hot Dog - I mean, c'mon... I realize Jughead likes food, but just think of the image of a hot dog and tell me that isn't the most phallic thing he could have named his dog.

You've got to be kidding me right? Have you actually read any articles on Jughead? He has been in relationships with women before. And his friendship with Archie is no 'hint' or 'subtle' gay relationship.
Have you ever thought that maybe Jughead is just not attracted to Veronica to the point of receiveing a kiss from her? Did you ever think that Jughead is just fine without a girlfriend at the age of 17? Has it ever occured to you that Jughead's lust for food is what makes Jughead ....Jughead? It never came across your mind that Jughead is just a FRIEND? You're mind on the name for Hotdog is what you think. With a clean mind it would not bother you, with a dirty mind ANYTHING Jughead names his dog would be offensive to you.
I personally like Jughead. He's one of the cleanest male characters to me because in fact he hasen't adopted the view of the NEED to have a girlfriend as most characters in other comics and television shows. He won't doubt that a girl is a attractive and yet he keeps a platonic relationship with them. Reading more about Jughead, I'm sure you'll appreciate that he's not gay and he's really just an average teen. I mean he's only 17, what is the point of him having a girlfriend anyway. I respect Jughead's character and that has made me quite the fan of him over the years. My advise; read more comics of Jughead, he grows on you.

we also have to look at Archie's choice between Betty and Veronica. Myself, I'd have taken Betty, the NICE one who treats me with respect and is my complete whore and faithful slave over the harpie bitch. what does Archie do? choose the bitch, not even because of any sexual attraction but because of her MONEY. Can there be any bigger clue???????

Listen to me people. Archie comics came out in the 1940s! Did you ever hear of gays before the 90s only when God destroy Sodom and Gamora in who knows when BC. If there were gays you never heard about it nor were kids introuduce to them enless through the Bible. (yes i know alot of words in ths sentence r misspelled ). So there think about that @#$
I am going to counter every one of your points because that's just the kind of thing a creepy, obsessed Jughead fan would do.
1. Jughead HATES Veronica. He wouldn't want to kiss her no matter how pretty she was. And as for not wanting a girlfriend? He's seen Archie in enough horrible girl-related situations to know better.
2. So he likes food! Big deal!He just loves to eat. Don't try to find hidden meaning where there isn't any. Archie's toplessness is easy to explain-they're at the beach!
3. Archie and Jughead have known each other forever. That kind of friend always gets a lot of love. And by love, I mean brotherly. Jug helps Archie out of awful spots because that's just the kind of friend he is. He's loyal, honest, and helpful.
4. The dog is named Hot Dog because he is in fact a dog, and what other food pun includes dog without it being weird?
One more thing: He isn't interested in girls because he's head-over-heels for Betty. He is! I know he is! I'm not crazy...
Anyway, that also explains why he isn't trying to break up Archie and Betty; Arch makes her happy, and that's all he really cares about.

Before we harp on Jughead's sexuality I think we need to call ARCHIES into question. Think about it: what normal guy turns down a hot sweet hearted piece of ass like Betty, who would give him ANYTHING he wanted, to take the abuse and crap he does from Veronica? Look at what she puts him through just to get a KISS for God's sake!I say the reason he goes after Veronica is so he DOESN'T have to face the fact he's gay because he won't be able to with Betty, plus he's probably decent enough not to want to humiliate her like that. NO woman is worth your dignity, ALWAYS hold out for the one who will bend over backwards for you. ANY guy knows this so what the hell Archie? Why ARE you wasting your time on a bitch like Veronica when you have a willing slave in Betty?
LOL! I got to this page because I was being quizzed by a friend about the "S" on Jughead's shirts (there is a reason for it, I forget what it is). I theorized that it was a tribute to Superman, & that Jughead has a secret identity, a life that he's hiding from the world; that he is, in fact, gay! I don't buy all this crap about his lust for men being sublimated for food. He's a growing teen & is forever hungry (he's not fat, for all his eating). But there is his childish loathing of women--I mean, come on! He's not eight! He's a young man. He's also a bit of a radical--the beanie, the slightly slovenly appearance--he's Archie's version of Maynard Krebbs! So he's already exploring "alternative lifestyles". It's just a short step past the closet threshold. Go Jughead!

Back in the 1940s when Archie Comics were not censored, I had a story where Archie goes door to dooe selling magazine subscriptions, but dressed in drag...when he gets to Miss Grundy's door, she immediately falls in lust and tries to pull Archie into the house! I AM NOT JOKING! The issue is ARCHIE COMICS, somewhere between issues 10 and 30. And I believe Jughead is gay, since Bob Montana, Archie's creator, based the characters on real people he went to school with.
Good theory, although Juggie has been in relationships with girls before (admittedly not regular ones)and in alternate universes has fallen in love with them (in the future series he falls in love w/Archie's great granddaughter), etc.
Moreover, there IS now a gay character in Riverdale. Kevin Keller, in Veronica # 202 is due in early September of this year.
He does pick Jughead to come out to first though... Guess the debate will keep going :-)
Jughead is not gay. As a matter of fact, later issues revealed that Jughead only eats so much because women actually make him really nervous, and as a result he eats a lot. He even told Betty once that she would be the only girl he would willingly kiss. Also, he's had relationships with girls like Joanie and Debbie, and he gets married to Midge in the future. The only reason he doesn't date in high school is because he sees the hell his friend Archie is going through, and also thinks its better to save money to spend on FOOD than waste it on a woman.

Yes, Jughead is obviously gay (I pity the ppl who say he isn't just because he hooked up with Jan McAndrews or Joani or whatever). All these characters have analogies.
Betty Cooper is nice, but she is also quite the slut. She throws herself to 5 different boys at once. I am like WHAAAAAT!!!
Even though Veronica is a materialistic, shallow and conceited bitch, she is classy and has standards about who she dates. Ditto with Cheryl Blossom.
Miss Grundy is not a lesbian, she is just a spinster. Her crush on Mr. Weatherbee is always brought up.
okay... in one comic veronica is being grounded for her low grades,including the big Saturday dance,she asked miss Grundy for a retest. Betty told juggie that she was happy because she was always archies second choice for a date (btw she totally should just let him get herpes frim that ho' veronica)but Miss Grundy asked betty to help veronica study in a roundabout way so betty being betty helps her rich bitch of a friend and she ends up passing the test and ends up going to the dance with archie. betty of course is teary eyed and jughead states that if he ever willingly kisses a girl it would be her. this is the only evidence (besides kissing trula twist to see if her lips really did taste like peppermint, they did not) that jug head has any intrest in girls and i applaud the archie comic people for finally getting with it by having a more diverse group in "the gang" personaly i think that they should also have a friend with a different ability, like being in a wheel chair or missing a limb and so on. Maybe he will come out of the closet or rollinto bed with betty, who knows?
